Climate Week, New York, 2023, runs September 17-24 and kicked off with headliners including Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Kevin Bacon, and Ethan Hawke, along with 75,000 climate protestors. Their main goal? To be heard.
The theme of this year’s Climate Week is We Can. We Will. The Climate Group sponsoring the event states, “The theme reflects determination, focus, but also a hopeful promise, and a call to action to do it together. It touches upon the action we need to take now, but also the need to look ahead and explore new opportunities.” The opening ceremony took place Sunday, September 17th, kicking off The March to End Fossil Fuels.
Tens of thousands showed up for this protest, demanding action from President Joe Biden: “. . . stop approving new oil and gas projects, phase out current ones and declare a climate emergency with larger executive powers.
The message is clear: it’s time for policymakers to step up and do the hard work it will take to stop climate change. There’s only so much we can do as individuals; we need to get major companies and corporations to act.
