Transit Equity Days--Remembering Rosa Parks

Public transit is a civil right and an important part of a just transition from a fossil-fuel to a clean energy economy! Transit Equity Days is a celebration of Rosa Parks' birthday and includes events, workshops, tours, and library displays about the importance of public transit in moving from a fossil fuel to a clean energy economy. The event provides:
- An invitation and tools for bus riders to share their public transit stories at display sites and online;
- Free fares on the MTU from Monday, January 29, through Sunday, February 4;
- Free fares on the Scenic Mississippi Regional Transit buses on Tuesday, January 30;
- “Office Hours on the Bus” rides with local elected city, county, and state leaders;
- An online thank you card to appreciate the virtual essential role transit workers play in our community.
You are invited to attend these programs:
- January 29 at 11:15 a.m. - a press event at the Grand River Station Transit Center, 314 Jay St. Local, county, and state elected officials, along with local transit riders and advocates, will speak. Transit Equity Day proclamations by Mayor Reynolds and La Crosse County.
- January 31 at 7 p.m. - a multimedia workshop, Transportation Liberation - The Joy and Freedom of Not Owning a Car, at the Southside Neighborhood Center, 1300 Sixth St. S.
- February 1 at 6:30 p.m. - an online program about the Sierra Club initiative, Transit to Trails for All
- February 4 at 1:30 p.m. at the Rivoli Theater - a free screening of the Peabody Award-winning film, The Rebellious Life of Mrs. Rosa Parks, hosted by the Wisconsin AARP, followed by a panel discussion on Transit Equity in La Crosse. REGISTRATION REQUIRED (free).
- February 5, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. - an online livestream of national Transit Equity Day events hosted by the Labor Network for Sustainability
